#NotOurMedicine Campaign Relaunch
June 17 @ 8:45 am - 4:30 pm
Mamaway is thrilled to announce that we are relaunching the #NotOurMedicine Campaign on June 17th in Barrie
We would love for you to join us for the day, we have a great agenda lined up. During our relaunch event, we will provide an overview of the history of the campaign followed by a discussion around the future of the campaign and an afternoon workshop with Logan Staats, Juno Nominated Indigenous song writer and musician!
We are inviting all Indigenous youth aged (13-18 years old, with some exceptions) that have interest in supporting the campaign for 8 weeks after the event. Our goal for the day is to share information about the campaign so the youths and support staff can decide if they want to commit in helping us reignite the campaign!
It Is important for us to connect our partner communities to gather input into the design of our future campaign, this will help tailor the message to our region.
Before the pandemic, we had great success with the campaign by gathering youths for multi day engagements and sharing educational information while building their skills and awareness around campaign development. Follow us on socials @notourmedicine to see some of the old content!
If you plan to join us, we ask that you please register by June 12th, 2024 so we can plan accordingly.

More Information to consider:
Our anti-drug awareness #NotOurMedicine campaign will engage Indigenous youths for their input and recognizing the importance of early intervention and health promotion – with a youth focus content/involvement supported by our Mamaway Life Promoters.
By identifying 2-3 youth from each regional community, we hope to “plant seeds” of awareness – and establish a focus for growth in expanding community consciousness about Opioids and the dangers related.
The follow up sessions will be held in Orillia over 8 weeks to build awareness and grow creative assets for the awareness campaign.
Throughout the 8-week creation (8 consecutive Thursdays 430-7pm) of multi-media assets and campaign messaging, there will be an effort in raising awareness and education for the youth in the region. Our goal is for this to be a long-lasting campaign that is relevant in a meaningful and cultural way.
The campaign will focus on these key elements:
- Awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse
- Understanding what is our medicine, building our bundles
- Discuss where to go to for help and support when you needed.
The foundational philosophy is to reduce the stigma of opioid addiction. And the message woven throughout will be the strength of cultural connections as supporting factors in recovery.
Please connect with Bawd; belliott@banacon.ca if you have any questions!
