Barrie National day of Truth & Reconciliation Engagements

September 30 @ 6:30 am - 7:00 pm

On Monday September 30th, there will be meaningful engagements, and a memorial walk in Barrie and Orillia.

These engagements help grow awareness of the individual, family and community intergenerational impacts of Residential Schools.

Orange Shirt Day is a national day of remembrance, teaching and healing.

Barrie engagement – 6:30am until 7pm (all occurring at the Spirit Catcher)

Collaborative event put on by BNFC, BANAC – Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin, City of Barrie and Barrie Public Library, with support from the McLaren Art Centre this year.

BNFC will be on site to welcome community members for a Sunrise Ceremony at 6:30am, followed by hosting various guests’ speakers at the sacred fire beside the Spirit Catcher all day
BNFC welcomes all community members to join them for a Tipi Raising ceremony at 9am.

Regional Organizations will be set up in the afternoon to provide information about supports and services available to the Indigenous community.
Our Mamaway Mobile Clinic will be on site!

To finish the day, Mamaway has invited the Drum Group, Old Soul Singers to join us for the Memorial Walk at 6:00pm to send us off in a good way and to welcome us back with some songs and beautiful dancers in their regalia.
